Eildon Holiday Cottages are ideally located for fishing the River Tweed which is one of the world’s most famous Salmon fishing rivers. More Salmon are caught on fly in the Tweed than in any other river in Scotland. Although a lot of salmon are caught and released by anglers these days for conservation, we do have a large chest freezer ready for any Salmon you decide to keep during your stay with us. Our cottages all have fully equipped kitchens so if you want to eat it fresh that is also possible!
We have a barn where you can store fishing rods over night, to save taking them down each day, and we have a drying area next to our biomass boiler where you can hang your waders and wet coats up to dry over-night.
The salmon fishing season commences on 1st February and finishes on 31st November. Salmon can be caught throughout the season but peak time on the river is March – May for the spring run, August for the summer run and September – November for the autumn run.
Please contact us if you require details of local fishing guides who can take you on fishing trips on the Tweed and its tributaries.
Trout and grayling fishing on the Tweed can also be very good and is much less expensive than salmon fishing. Permits are available from local shops in Melrose.
There are also some course fisheries and stocked trout lochs in the area.
