Howlands is a spacious cottage with exposed stone walls providing an insight into the historic building’s previous use as a Victorian farm grain store from which it was converted. It’s centrally located in the Scottish Borders so perfect for exploring the whole region including the jewel in the crown that is Melrose, a lovely market town just a stones throw away. It’s ideal for visiting Edinburgh too which is just an hour away on the train. Sleeping four people in two bedrooms it’s all on the ground floor and is fully wheelchair accessible. 10% discount for 2 person occupancy (sharing 1 bedroom).
There is a large open-plan kitchen / dining / sitting room with wonderful garden views – a great place for watching the huge array of birds (and squirrels!) visiting the bird-feeders. The master bedroom can be made up with two single beds or a super-king size double bed. The shared bathroom has a large bath tub and over-bath shower. There is space in the bathroom to use a mobile hoist for anyone that needs it. The second bedroom has a single bed plus an optional full size single pull out bed for a fourth person (please be aware there is not much room around the beds when the pull out bed is in use).
The cottage is kept cosy year round by our eco-friendly biomass heating system. Top quality bedding (luxury microfibre, no feathers), bed linen, extra large fluffy bath towels, hand towels and bath matts are provided plus tea towels and oven gloves in the fully equipped kitchen.
The cottage is surrounded by beautiful open gardens for your enjoyment. There are quiet corners with wooden benches, a viewpoint with a swinging bench, picnic benches for eating outdoors and Webber charcoal BBQs for cooking. Smoking and vaping is allowed outside only.
The centre of Melrose (Sunday Times 2018 winner of Best Place to Live in Scotland) is around 10-15 minutes walk away (0.5 miles) or 2 minutes in the car.
